Clinic days:
PGY-1: Will have 2 half days a week, with some exceptions (IM months, ER months, and a few select out rotations.
PGY-2,3: Will have 4 half days a week.
How the clinic works:
Our preceptors give their full attention to teaching when in the clinic. They are scheduled for no other activities during this time. We usually have 3-4 residents for each session. We do both direct and indirect precepting depending on the competance of the resident. There are many opportunities for students to rotate in the clinic as well and be part of the team or get a feel for our program.
Patient base:
During your time in the clinic you will see a wide range of patients ranging from 2 week old infants to 80+ year old patients. You will treat patients with problems including everything from simple viral URIs, to HTN, DM, Ingrown toenails, abscess, and more. All of our attending physicians are comfortable precepting procedures. Our reception staff try when at all possible to maintain continuity and schedule your patients only with you for your 3 years.
OMM:
Several of our faculty are allopathic physicians. We do however encourage residents to perform osteopathic evaluations and OMM whenever appropriate. There is always an osteopathic faculty available for consult and guidance even if the preceptor for the day is not a DO.
Didactics:
Every morning we have a 1 hour session of didactics before starting to see patients. These sessions are led by the preceptor for the day or sometimes and invited specialist.
